About the Event

Enkelit is a small upper-voices group which rehearses in York but has members from across the north of England and Scotland, drawn together to sing the beautiful and stirring contemporary acapella music of Finland. Most of the composers of our repertoire are women who draw on a long tradition of music and literature about women's lived experiences, and we focus on these pieces in this workshop. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to listen and join in with some of the exciting and haunting music, as well as learn more about the background of the songs themselves.

This event is free, with an optional donation to Kyra Women's Project welcome on the day. This event is not suitable for under 18's.

This event is part of York International Women's Week. York International Women’s Week (YIWW) is based in York, UK. The Programme is organised by volunteers and based in the local community, with growing links to women’s organisations in other parts of the world. Each year YIWW spans International Women’s Day, 8th March, focusing on women’s rights and gender justice, as well as celebrating women’s achievements.
