About the Event

This one-woman show explores language from the point of view of a Lithuanian woman who wants to communicate, fit in and survive. It is set in at what looks like an abandoned photo development room where the protagonist is developing books instead. She goes through the books and dives into the stories in search of the meaning (or lack of meaning).

The piece combines visual theatre, performance art, digital technology and BSL to tell the story. The core theme of the piece is learning a new language, changing skin (physically and metaphorically) and growing into oneself forced but not defined by the circumstances.

Seven songs tell the story of a young woman born in independent, post-occupation Estonia and the Soviet residue that restrains feminist progress by polluting the minds of some of her fellow countrypersons. The Kaisa Ling Thing (Kaisa Ling, vocals, plus Rene Paul, piano and vocals) paints a vaudevillian blues portrait of what it’s like to be a modern woman on the doorstep of Russia.
