About the Event

This programme aims to support young leaders to enhance their skills and collaborate with their peers to address multiple 21st century crises – from climate change to employment and employability, to alienation and inclusion, to conflict and stability.

The new EU/UK Youth Stronger Together project, implemented by the British Council in co-operation with the European Movement International and co-funded by the European Union, offers young people aged 15–30 from the EU and the UK opportunities to connect, co-operate, influence and implement change together on issues of common interest.

The project aims to facilitate close and sustainable relationship between young people in the UK and the EU for Europe’s collective benefit. We work with various groups of young people through different strands of the programme.

The four different strands are:

1) Schools - Stronger Together for Social Action

As part of the Social Action strand of the programme focusing on schools, thematic events, workshops and competitions will take place to facilitate partnership building between schools in the UK and EU.

The programme aspires to highlight the role of young people aged 15–18 as changemakers, active global citizens and leaders at local, national and European level.

Key activities include:

  • virtual thematic events on topics of common interest, generated by young people themselves through participation in an online survey
  • international school partnerships between schools in the EU and the UK working together on social action campaign projects.

Winners of the school partnership competition will have the opportunity to take part in an international face-to-face workshop on digital campaigning for social purpose!

2) Youth organisations - Stronger Together for Youth Leadership

Through the activities of our Youth Leadership strand, the programme aims to strengthen the UK youth sector and enable connections with youth organisations, policy makers and practitioners. This strand will include youth leaders and representatives of youth organisations aged 18–30 across the UK and EU.

Activities include:

  • online focused discussions with youth organisations
  • participation of representatives of UK youth organisations in international networking events for young people
  • creation of a network of youth organisations across the EU and UK
  • youth policy events in the UK.

3) Stronger Together for a Better World

This strand works with young activists aged 18–30 from across the UK and EU through community workshops, joint events and training so as to promote shared fundamental values and give prominence to the role of youth in bringing about positive change, social cohesion and peace.

Activities include:

  • community workshops for young people in Ireland and Northern Ireland to design community-led public space interventions
  • competitions featuring podcasts, photos, videos, articles and visuals showing what young people from EU and the UK can achieve together.

4) Stronger Together for a Positive Narrative

In this strand young journalists and content creators aged 18–30 from across the UK and the EU work together through joint ventures and training so as to create positive and meaningful narratives, enable young people’s voices to be heard and facilitate common spaces for co-operation.

Activities include:

  • a four-day workshop for 30 young journalists and social media content creators
  • travel grants to ten young journalists to attend major youth events and create online stories and articles
  • competitions featuring podcasts, photos, videos, articles and visuals showing what young people from EU and the UK can achieve together.
